From the days of Haenchen in Kingston, Oklahoma. A pair of slates is handed for examination. They are then placed together and a spectator ties a ribbon or cord completely around the slates in both directions. The spectator may hold the slates while the magician calls on the "spirits" to give them a message, answer questions, etc. The spectator removes the ribbon and finds both inside surfaces of the slates covered with writing! Includes regular chalk. This is not just an ordinary set of school slates but rather well crafted with internal spring mechanisms for retaining or releasing a flap which in effect causes the appearance of chalk writing on one or both sides of the slates that have been bound together.
